A man was sentenced to life for killing a pubgoer, reacting furiously in court.
Gorseinon: A shocking scene unfolded in court when Christopher Cooper, 39, was sentenced for killing Kelvin Evans. As the judge delivered the life sentence, Cooper erupted, telling him to “go f*** yourself.”
Cooper had attacked Evans outside The Station Hotel last May, leading to Evans’ death a month later. He claimed self-defense, saying Evans threatened his girlfriend during karaoke. But the court wasn’t buying it.
Prosecutor Andrew Jones called Cooper’s defense “ludicrous.” In the end, Cooper was found guilty of murder, while his partner, Tracy Francis, was convicted for helping him cover it up.
After the verdict, Cooper was sentenced to life, with a minimum of 16 years. His outburst shocked everyone in the courtroom. Evans’ mother, Maureen, shared her heartbreak, saying she never expected to lose her son.
Evans’ former partner, Janet, described him as her soulmate, expressing her deep grief over the loss. Judge Geraint Walters criticized Cooper for showing no remorse, highlighting his troubling past with numerous convictions.
After the sentencing, a police detective expressed hope that the family could find some comfort in the justice served. He emphasized that helping offenders evade justice would only lead to more consequences.
