A murder investigation has been initiated after a man died in Beverley, raising concerns in the local community.
Beverley: A murder investigation is now in full swing after a man died early this morning. It all started when someone called the police around 1 AM, saying a man had been seriously hurt on Lairgate, close to Saturday Market.
When the emergency services arrived, they rushed the man to the hospital, but sadly, he didn’t make it. It’s a tough situation for everyone involved.
Police arrested a 43-year-old man at the scene on suspicion of murder and for having some illegal drugs. He’s still in custody, being questioned by detectives.
Senior Investigating Officer Leanne Murphy mentioned that this kind of incident can really shake up a community. She reassured everyone that it seems to involve people who knew each other, so there’s no wider threat to the public.
They’ve set up a scene guard on Lairgate to help with the investigation. Road closures are in effect, so if you’re planning to head into Beverley today, it’s best to steer clear of that area.
Residents can expect to see more police officers around this weekend, as they’ll be patrolling and chatting with locals. If anyone has questions or concerns, they’re encouraged to talk to the officers.
Murphy also urged anyone who might have seen what happened or has any information, including CCTV or dashcam footage, to reach out to them. You can call their non-emergency number, 101, and mention log 13 from January 4. If you want to stay anonymous, you can contact Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
