Wrexham: A woman was caught passing drugs to her partner in prison. Rebecca Gray was holding her baby when she hugged the inmate at HMP Berwyn.

She slipped two packages into his trousers during the visit. This happened on April 1, 2023. A judge said it was worse because a child was present.

Gray, 27, from Runcorn, got an eight-month prison sentence, but it was suspended for two years. She was visiting Connor Vibrams, 28, at the jail.

Staff noticed her actions and found 80g of cannabis worth £600 outside the prison. Inside, the drugs were valued at £1,650. They also found 20g of tobacco worth £400.

Gray was arrested, and a phone she left in a visitor locker showed she was paid £1,600 to bring in drugs. She didn’t answer questions during her interview.

Vibrams admitted to an “on-off” relationship with Gray. He confirmed she passed him tobacco but denied receiving cannabis. He is already serving an 18-month sentence for his role.

Gray has three children who are in care. She has faced homelessness but now has stable housing. The judge emphasized the seriousness of her actions.

He said drugs in prison are dangerous and can lead to violence. The presence of a child made the situation worse, as it distracted from suspicion.

Gray must attend 20 days of rehabilitation and wear an electronic tag for two months. She’ll have a curfew from 7 PM to 7 AM.
