A mother is left with a staggering £28,000 bill after a quad bike accident in Egypt, with no insurance to cover the costs
Hurghada: A mum named Samantha Perry had a terrifying experience while quad biking on holiday. She nearly lost her life after a nasty crash, and now she’s facing a whopping £28,000 hospital bill because she didn’t have insurance.
Her son, Josh Charles, who’s an army vet, was riding with her when the accident happened. One moment they were having fun, and the next, Samantha was trapped under the quad bike. Josh had to use his training to help her out.
When he found her, she was unconscious and bleeding badly. He quickly bandaged her arm with his head scarf until help arrived. It was a real panic moment, and he was scared he might lose her.
Doctors rushed her into surgery, and thankfully, they managed to save her arm. But she’s still in intensive care, and the medical costs are piling up. Josh has set up a GoFundMe page to help cover the expenses and get his mum back home to the UK.
He admitted they didn’t get holiday insurance, but he learned that it often doesn’t cover quad bike accidents anyway. Josh, who lives in Birkenhead, Merseyside, said this was supposed to be a fun birthday trip, but it turned into a nightmare.
He described how everything was going great until that split second when his mum fell off the bike. He was looking back to check on her when he realized she was gone. It’s heartbreaking to think about what could have happened if he hadn’t been there.
Josh is doing everything he can to support his mum while she’s in the hospital. He’s been feeding her and keeping her spirits up, but it’s tough seeing her in such a bad state. He’s hoping the fundraiser will help get her home safely.
