A mother was frustrated to learn her children could have traveled free on the train, highlighting a lack of information during ticket purchase.
Pontypool: So, there’s this mum, Charlotte Hill, who was pretty bummed out after she found out she paid full price for her kids’ train tickets. She was traveling to Cardiff with her two little ones and ended up spending £17.50 for all three tickets.
On the way back, a conductor told her that kids can actually travel for free on weekends and during school holidays if they’re with a paying adult. Can you believe that?
Charlotte bought her tickets through the Trainline app, thinking she was doing everything right. But she said there was no info about the free kids’ tickets when she was buying them.
A Trainline spokesperson explained that those free tickets aren’t available online. To get them, you have to go to a ticket office or ask a conductor. They get that it’s confusing since so many people book online these days.
Charlotte was really disappointed, especially since there’s no ticket station in Pontypool to get that info. She just wants to travel by train because it’s cheaper than driving.
At least she got a refund for her kids’ tickets after all that hassle. The Trainline said they refunded her as a goodwill gesture, even though they charged the right price online. It’s a bit of a mess, but hopefully, they’ll sort it out for the future.
