Stephanie Rose Whittaker vanished in 1990 during a walk in Newport, and her case remains unsolved after nearly 35 years.
Newport: It’s been almost 35 years since a mum named Stephanie Rose Whittaker went missing. She was just 34 when she disappeared while heading out to meet friends.
On March 23, 1990, she said goodbye to her husband, Tony, and left their home. She was planning to attend a spiritualist meeting, a regular Friday night thing for her.
Stephanie called a friend to say she was running late, but she never made it to the meeting. The route she took was usually busy and well-lit, so her sudden disappearance is baffling.
When Tony woke up at 3 AM and realized she hadn’t come home, he started to worry. He called her friends, and that’s when he learned she never arrived at the meeting.
Everyone who knew her said she loved her kids and had a happy life. It just didn’t make sense for her to leave. A week later, a handbag was found, but it wasn’t clear if it belonged to her.
Over the years, there were a few possible sightings, but nothing concrete. Police have said they believe she might not be in Wales anymore, but they still hope she’s alive.
As of now, Gwent Police are still considering her a missing person. If anyone has information, they’re encouraged to reach out. It’s a mystery that still haunts her family and friends.
