Derby: So, here’s the scoop. Starting soon, two big roads in Derby are going to be closed for a month. It’s all about some important maintenance work. National Highways has announced that the A516 slip roads, both northbound and southbound, will be shut down for about 10 hours each day.

The closures will happen overnight, from 8 PM to 6 AM, kicking off on January 23 and wrapping up on February 14. A rep from National Highways said they’re clearing out any plants that could be a danger to drivers on those slip roads.

They’ll be trimming back branches that hang over the road, lifting tree crowns, and taking down any dead trees that might fall. Plus, they’ll be clearing out brambles and scrub, but don’t worry—they’ll check for nesting birds before they start any work.

During this time, the A516 northbound exit slip road to Hospital Island will be closed from January 13 to January 24. The southbound exit slip road to Mickleover Island will be closed from January 27 to February 14.

While the roads are closed, there will be a signed diversion in place, and emergency vehicles will still have access. The spokesperson mentioned they’ll do their best to keep the impact on the local community and drivers to a minimum.

They also noted that while they aim to stick to the schedule, unexpected issues or bad weather could cause some changes. You can check out the signed diversion details through the link they provided.
