A local resident expresses concern over safety hazards from a broken streetlight and burnt grass following Bonfire Night celebrations
Middlesbrough: A resident is pretty upset about a broken streetlight and some burnt grass near her home. Laura, who lives on Cotswold Avenue, says it’s a real safety issue.
She pointed out that there’s burnt rubbish and a big patch of scorched grass from a fire on November 5, 2023. Laura thinks it’s not just ugly but also a fire risk.
Back in 2023, the Cleveland Fire Brigade shared photos showing how much damage bonfires can cause. Laura mentioned there was another bonfire on November 5, 2024, and the streetlight next to the burnt grass hasn’t worked since then.
She’s worried about exposed wires, calling it an “electrical hazard” that could hurt someone, especially kids. The hazards are right behind Cotswold Avenue and Cargo Fleet Lane.
Laura said, “This situation cannot continue. It’s really important that something gets done quickly to fix these problems and keep everyone safe.”
A spokesperson for Middlesbrough Council said they had reported four broken streetlights in November. Three were fixed right away, and the last one is set to be repaired this month. They take issues like dumping and burning rubbish very seriously and are committed to tackling fly-tipping.
