Storm Éowyn is set to bring strong winds to the North East, with gusts reaching up to 80mph. Here’s what to expect and when.
Newcastle: The North East is bracing for some wild weather as Storm Éowyn rolls in on Friday. The Met Office has warned us to expect some seriously strong winds.
They’ve issued a yellow weather warning, saying we could see gusts of 60-70mph inland and even stronger along the coast, hitting up to 90mph. Yikes!
Weather maps show the stormy weather arriving late Thursday night. By 3am Friday, the winds will start picking up, and by 6am, they’ll be in full swing across the region.
In the early hours, places like Newcastle will see winds around 48mph, while Hexham and Alnwick will be a bit breezier. But hold on, it gets wilder as the day goes on.
By 9am, we’re looking at gusts of 72mph in Newcastle and even higher in other areas. And at noon, it’s going to peak, with Alnwick and Berwick facing the brunt of it.
At midday, the Met Office predicts maximum gusts of 82mph in Berwick and 81mph in Alnwick. That’s some serious wind! The strong gusts will stick around until about 9pm before calming down.
The Met Office has said that while there’s some uncertainty about the exact path of Storm Éowyn, we can definitely expect a spell of very strong winds. So, it’s best to stay safe and keep an eye on the weather updates.
