The Met Office has issued new weather warnings for the South West, predicting heavy rain and strong winds this weekend that could cause disruptions.
Exeter: The Met Office has just dropped two more weather warnings for the South West. This weekend, we’re looking at yellow warnings for rain and wind, especially on Sunday.
The wind warning kicks in at 8am and runs until 3pm, while the rain warning starts at 8am and lasts until early Monday. They’re saying we might see some heavy rain that could lead to local flooding.
It looks like central and southern England, along with much of Wales, will get hit with heavy rain on Sunday morning. We could see 10-20 mm of rain, and in some places, it could be even more—up to 50 mm on high ground.
And if that’s not enough, there’s a chance of more heavy rain Sunday evening, which could bring totals up to 80 mm in some areas. With all the rain we’ve had lately, this could lead to some serious flooding.
So, what should you expect? There’s a slight chance of power cuts and some homes might even get flooded. If that happens, it could mess with train and bus services too.
Driving could get tricky with spray and flooding, and there’s a small chance of fast-moving floodwater being dangerous. Just a couple of days ago, Storm Eowyn brought strong winds and heavy rain, and now we’re gearing up for more warnings.
Forecasters are saying to be careful, especially on Friday when the storm hits. The whole country is under at least one weather warning, with snow, wind, and rain expected.
Winds are set to be strongest in the north, but the south won’t be spared either. Gusts could reach up to 90 mph along the coast, while inland areas might see 60 to 70 mph.
So, if you’ve got anything loose outside, it’s a good idea to secure it. The Met Office is warning that flying debris could pose a danger to life. Storm Eowyn is expected to cause widespread disruption, so stay safe out there!
