The Met Office is urging everyone to prepare for Storm Éowyn with five essential checks to stay safe and secure during the severe weather.
London: The Met Office is sounding the alarm as Storm Éowyn approaches the UK. They’re advising folks to make five crucial checks to keep their homes safe.
With winds hitting up to 90mph, red warnings are out for Northern Ireland and parts of Scotland. There are also amber and yellow warnings for rain and snow across the country.
On Thursday, a heavy rain front will sweep in, bringing wet and windy conditions overnight. By Friday morning, the storm will be in full swing.
As the storm rolls in, expect strong winds and heavy rain, especially in the southwest. Northern Ireland and northern England might even see some snow, but that’ll likely turn to rain later.
The Met Office is calling this a “multi-hazard event,” which means it could really mess with travel plans and even cause power outages. So, they’re urging everyone to take precautions.
They recommend checking for loose items outside your home. Things like bins, plant pots, and garden furniture should be secured or brought inside. Trampolines should be turned upside down, and shed doors should be locked.
Staying indoors is the best bet during high winds. If you have to go out, avoid walking near buildings and trees to stay safe.
According to chief meteorologist Paul Gundersen, this storm is no joke. It’s expected to hit Northern Ireland early Friday and then move northeast across Scotland. Even areas not under red warnings will still face disruptive weather.
