Merseyrail services are suspended due to heavy snow and ice, leaving commuters stranded and frustrated across the region
The worst spots hit are Wirral and Southport, but honestly, no one is getting a break this morning. Around 9:30 AM, they announced that every single line was suspended.
They put out a statement saying heavy snow and ice are to blame. They’re telling everyone to find other transport options and promise to keep us updated.
Last night, they had already activated their cold weather plan, which meant the first trains would run empty. But then, bam! A sudden snow dump hit after 7 AM, and things went downhill fast.
This isn’t the first time this winter that Merseyrail has faced such issues. People are starting to wonder why a bit of ice and snow can cause so much trouble.
One big issue is how they get power to their trains. Unlike other networks that use overhead lines, Merseyrail relies on a third rail on the ground. This makes it more vulnerable to freezing conditions.
Understandably, commuters are pretty upset. One person, Anna, said she’s been relying on Ubers all week because the train services are so bad.
Another commuter, Jack, expressed his frustration, saying it’s 2025 and they keep saying they’re working hard to fix things, but it doesn’t seem like enough. He’s been late to work all week and is questioning the value of his rail pass.
One guy even shared that his wife was stuck on a train for nearly three hours because it lost power, and the train sent to rescue them also lost power.
