A driver caused serious injuries to three young people after running a red light following a funeral, admitting his role in the crash.
Widnes: So, there was this guy, Anthony Campbell, who really messed up after his best friend’s funeral. He ended up crashing into three young people, leaving them seriously hurt. He called it “a bad day from start to finish.”
He ran a red light and slammed into their Audi while speeding at about 70mph. The victims were just trying to grab a bite at McDonald’s after the wake. One guy got a bleed on the brain, and the others had some pretty nasty injuries too.
In court, it came out that Campbell had been at the funeral and the wake, where he was with the victims. They were all just there to pay their respects. But then, he decided to drive, even though he was banned from doing so.
After the crash, he tried to run away but later called the police to confess. He said he felt bad about what happened but didn’t seem too worried about getting caught. He even admitted to speeding and not wearing a seatbelt.
Campbell has a history of trouble with the law, including previous convictions for dangerous driving. His lawyer tried to explain that he was just having a rough time, but the judge wasn’t having it. He got sentenced to over three years in prison and banned from driving for quite a while.
The judge made it clear that Campbell’s actions were reckless and that he posed a serious risk to others on the road. It’s a tough situation all around, especially for the victims who are now facing a long recovery.
