A 30cm Christmas tree has been cherished by the same family for 93 years, capturing hearts online after a touching social media post.
Swansea: Can you believe a tiny Christmas tree has been in the same family for 93 years? It’s just 30cm tall, but it’s packed with memories. John Beynon, a 70-year-old sheep farmer, sets it up every year in his farmhouse. This year, his daughter Ellie shared photos of it on Facebook, and it blew up with 11,000 likes!
The tree means a lot to John, especially after losing his wife last year. He moved back to the farmhouse where the tree has been kept all these years. It’s a real treasure for him, bringing back fond Christmas memories. He hopes it’ll stay in the family for generations to come.
John’s mum bought the tree back in 1931 for just sixpence from Woolworths. Can you imagine? Every year, it goes in the same spot in the kitchen, sparking nostalgia for the past. John chuckles, saying it’s been there as long as he can remember, even though they also have a bigger tree.
So why keep it for so long? John laughs, saying he and his mum just don’t like throwing things out. It’s a family thing! Ellie feels the same way. She remembers her grandmother bringing it out every Christmas, and now it’s a way to keep those memories alive.
Ellie was surprised by the reaction on social media. People are loving the story and connecting with it. One comment said it’s beautiful and environmentally friendly, which is a nice touch considering how many trees get tossed each year. The Beynon family is definitely doing their part for the planet!
If you’re wondering what to do with your own Christmas tree after the holidays, many councils offer recycling services. It’s a great way to keep things green!
