Over 700 former McDonald’s employees are suing the chain amid shocking harassment claims
Birmingham: So, there’s this huge scandal brewing at McDonald’s. Over 700 ex-employees are taking legal action against the fast-food giant. They’re claiming some pretty serious harassment issues.
These former workers say the workplace was a total mess, with managers allowing a “toxic” environment. It’s wild to think this comes just a year after the UK boss, Alistair Macrow, promised to clean things up.
One former employee shared that older staff were betting on who could hook up with new hires. She also mentioned that managers were getting way too touchy. It’s just not right.
She said, “It was soon clear the environment was really toxic.” Can you imagine? Older guys making bets and making comments about her body? That’s just unacceptable.
Another shocking claim was that a manager slapped her on the bottom. A different employee from the West Midlands branch quit last year, saying she faced harassment from both managers and customers.
One ex-worker even said her manager asked for sex in exchange for extra shifts. She was like, “No way!” It’s just so inappropriate.
McDonald’s is saying they’re taking these allegations seriously. But when this employee raised her concerns, she was told to “suck it up.”
And get this: a male manager sent topless photos to a 20-year-old worker. Some staff were even asked about their sexual history. It’s just mind-blowing.
Another former employee, who was just 16 at the time, said harassment was a regular thing. She mentioned how they’d grope her and other young workers. A male employee who left in February said he wouldn’t want his sister or daughter working there.
McDonald’s did say they’re committed to making sure their 168,000 workers are safe. They’ve been working on improving practices to tackle harassment. But with all these claims, it’s hard to see how effective that really is.
The Mirror has reached out to McDonald’s for more comments on this situation.
