A customer was assaulted outside a Matalan store in Smethwick, prompting police involvement and a hospital visit for the victim
Smethwick: A man ended up in the hospital after being assaulted right outside the Matalan store. This happened around 5:15 PM on Wednesday at the Windmill Shopping Centre.
Both West Midlands Police and paramedics rushed to the scene. The staff helped the injured man, who thankfully had injuries that weren’t too serious, before he was taken to Midland Metropolitan University Hospital.
The police are looking into the incident, and a spokesperson from the ambulance service mentioned they got the call at 5:19 PM about the assault on Cape Hill in Smethwick. One ambulance was sent out.
When they arrived, they found the man and assessed his injuries, which were not believed to be serious. He was then taken to the hospital for further checks.
A spokesperson for Matalan said they were aware of the incident and that the safety of their customers and staff is their top priority. They’re working closely with the police to help with the investigation.
They also expressed gratitude to their staff for their quick actions and to the emergency services for their prompt response.
