A large fire at a Walsall recycling plant has prompted emergency services and concerns from nearby residents about a strong smell
Walsall: A big fire broke out at a recycling plant today, and it was quite a scene. Over 50 firefighters showed up to tackle the flames that were sending black smoke high into the sky.
The West Midlands Fire Service reported that the fire started around 1:10 PM at a recycling center on Westgate in Aldridge. They advised everyone to steer clear of the area.
People living nearby were not happy, saying the smell was just awful. You could see the smoke from miles away, and it was definitely concerning.
On social media, folks were sharing their thoughts. One person mentioned how many fire trucks were around and warned others to be careful driving because of the parked bin lorries. Another chimed in about the terrible smell.
A spokesperson from the fire service confirmed they received the call at 1:10 PM and had 55 firefighters on the scene. They were quick to respond to the situation.
By 2:20 PM, the fire service updated everyone on social media, saying they had 10 crews working hard to control the severe fire on Westgate. They really urged people to avoid the area if they could.
