A large fire at a Tipton recycling facility involved 30 tonnes of waste, prompting extensive firefighting efforts and public safety warnings
Tipton: A big fire erupted at a recycling site, and it was quite a scene. About 30 tonnes of mixed recycling caught fire, and it took several fire crews to get it under control.
Firefighters from eight different engines showed up, using a hydraulic aerial platform to tackle the flames. They were on the scene all night, starting from early Sunday morning and finally wrapping up around 11 AM on Monday.
They kept spraying water on the hotspots overnight, and they planned to check back throughout the day. The West Midlands Fire Service advised everyone to steer clear of the area because the smoke was pretty heavy.
According to a statement from the fire service, they got the call just before 8:20 AM on Sunday. Crews from various local stations worked hard to contain the fire to its original spot.
They even had diggers on-site to help move the burnt material to a safe area for dampening down. Police were there too, helping manage traffic, but thankfully, the nearby train lines weren’t affected.
Even after the main firefighting efforts were scaled down, some crews stayed overnight to keep an eye on things. They left the site around 11 AM, but more visits were planned to ensure everything was safe.
