A 19-year-old man is set to be sentenced for firing fireworks at police during Bonfire Night chaos in Edinburgh
Edinburgh: A masked guy, Dean Gorrie, is in hot water after he fired fireworks at police during a wild Bonfire Night. This all went down in 2023, and now he’s facing some serious jail time.
Gorrie, just 19, was part of a rowdy group wearing balaclavas that attacked police officers. The chaos unfolded in the Niddrie area, and it was quite a scene. The court heard he even aimed fireworks at innocent bystanders!
According to the fiscal, Gorrie was spotted on CCTV grabbing a firework and launching it at people. He didn’t stop there; he also threw a brick at a bus, smashing its window while it had passengers on board. Talk about reckless!
Things escalated further when the gang started randomly attacking folks with fireworks. Gorrie wasn’t directly involved at that moment, but he later reignited the chaos by throwing more fireworks at the police.
During the court hearing, it was revealed that Gorrie had turned himself in a week later after police tracked him down. His lawyer mentioned he’s been working as a scaffolder and has been on an electronic tag for a year.
The sheriff made it clear that this kind of behavior, especially endangering the public and police, won’t be taken lightly. Gorrie’s sentence is still pending, but it sounds like he’s in for a hefty punishment.
