Birmingham: Martin Lewis has a warning for anyone paying less than £135 a month for energy. He shared a new deal from EDF that removes standing charges for low energy users. This could be a great way to save money.

On social media, he said, “New £100 off energy standing charges tariffs! This can be a strong deal for lower energy users.” He emphasized that this offer is especially good for those who use less energy.

He also mentioned the Simply Tracker Extra tariff from EDF. This tariff tracks the Price Cap most homes are on but offers £100 a year less in daily charges. For those with lower usage, this can lead to decent savings.

Martin clarified that you don’t need smart meters unless you’re on prepay. He also noted there are exit fees of £25 per fuel.

For those who use more energy, he advised comparing options. With the Price Cap likely to rise in April, finding the cheapest fix is important.

Standing charges help everyone share the costs of gas and electricity supply. However, there’s been debate about these charges. Some suppliers say low or zero standing charges aren’t sustainable.

Martin Lewis has been vocal about his stance against standing charges, calling them a “moral hazard.” He continues to push for their elimination.
