Discover the thirteen pubs in Gwent that have received a hygiene rating of just 1
Cwmbran: So, it turns out that thirteen pubs in Gwent have a hygiene rating of just 1. That’s not great, right? The Food Standards Agency checks these places based on how they handle food, how clean everything is, and how well they manage food safety.
They even made a map showing where these pubs are. Some of the pubs, like the Terrace Inn and Oakfield Hotel, don’t serve food, but they still need to step up their cleanliness game.
The owners of the Golden Lion and Portskewett Inn mentioned they had some clerical errors during their last inspection. They’re working with the council to fix things and hope to get a better rating soon.
Oh, and the Golden Lion had a fire recently, which has delayed their inspection. Talk about bad luck!
Cwmbran RFC said their low score is partly due to their old kitchen equipment. But they’re getting some grant money to refurbish it, so they’re optimistic about a re-assessment.
Panteg House’s chairman acknowledged their rating drop and is keen to fix the issues raised. Meanwhile, the Castle Inn’s owner claims the bad rating was due to the previous tenant, and they don’t even serve food.
The Argus reached out to all these pubs to get their side of the story. It’s interesting to see how the Food Hygiene Rating Act 2013 has made it mandatory for all food-selling businesses in Wales to display their hygiene ratings.
Inspections are done by local authorities, and ratings can range from 0 to 5. If a place gets a low score, they can appeal it, but they really need to show they’re making improvements.
