Manchester Airport is set for major changes in 2025, including a new Wetherspoons and the closure of Terminal 1
Manchester: Big changes are coming to Manchester Airport in 2025. They’re wrapping up a massive £1.3 billion upgrade that started back in 2015. This project is all about making the airport experience way better for travelers.
Phase one finished in July 2021, which saw Terminal 2 get a big extension. Now, they’re working on phase two, which will be done soon. This includes building Pier 2 for new boarding areas, a fresh security hall, and a bigger departure lounge.
They’re also tweaking the airfield to make the most of the two runways. But the coolest news? Manchester Airport will finally have its first-ever Wetherspoons! Perfect for anyone wanting a pint before flying, right?
So, what’s on the horizon for passengers in 2025? Well, Terminal 1 is closing down, and Terminal 2 will take center stage. Terminal 3 will still be open, though.
They’re giving Terminal 2’s check-in area a makeover to match the new extension, plus adding a second security hall with the latest tech. Pier 2 will have 13 new boarding gates, making it easier for more planes to operate and giving travelers more room to chill while waiting.
They’re also revamping the arrivals hall to fit the new look of Terminal 2, with seven new shops and eateries. The departure lounge will double in size, featuring over 20 new food and retail spots, including that Wetherspoons and even a Lego store!
In total, 22 new units will pop up in Terminal 2. Expect luxury brands like Chanel and a Fever Tree champagne bar in the Boutique Mall. Plus, there’s a high street-style shopping area called The Avenue with shops like Lego and Pandora.
Foodies will love the Great Northern Market, offering a variety of street food options like pizza and Mexican dishes, with new choices coming in regularly. And yes, you’ll find high street favorites like JD Wetherspoon and Greggs there too!
