A man assaulted another at Hollywood Bowl after a mistaken accusation, leading to court charges and a scheduled sentencing.
Liverpool: So, there was this guy, Gareth Dunne, who really lost it at the Hollywood Bowl. It all started over a misunderstanding. Someone accused another guy of being inappropriate with a child, and Dunne took it way too far.
He ended up assaulting the guy, both inside and outside the bowling alley. This all went down in November 2023, and now he’s facing some serious charges in court.
When he showed up at Liverpool Crown Court, he looked pretty casual in a black jumper and a light blue shirt. He confirmed his name and birthday, but he wasn’t ready to admit to everything. He pleaded not guilty to one charge but did own up to a lesser one.
The prosecutor was cool with the pleas, and the defense asked for a little more time to get a pre-sentence report. So, they’ve set a date for sentencing on February 24.
The judge, David Swinnerton, had some wise words about how taking the law into your own hands can lead to mistakes. Dunne’s lawyer mentioned he’s never been in trouble before, which is a good point.
In the end, the judge let him go on bail until the sentencing. He reminded Dunne that getting all worked up about protecting kids is understandable, but it’s better to call the police instead of trying to handle things yourself.
