A 24-year-old man has been sentenced to 42 months in prison for a knife attack that nearly blinded his victim in Plymouth last year
Plymouth: So, there was this wild incident where a 24-year-old guy named Steven Whitford got himself into serious trouble. He lunged at a guy with a knife, and it was super close to causing some major damage—like, he almost blinded the guy!
This all went down last September. Whitford had a beef with some guys at a pub and decided to follow them out onto the street. Things escalated quickly, and he started shouting threats. It was pretty intense.
The prosecutor laid it all out in court. Whitford had a small blue object in his hand, which turned out to be a knife. He ended up punching one of the guys and then aimed the knife right at another guy’s eye. Can you imagine? Talk about a scary moment!
After the attack, the victim felt blood pouring down his face and had to rush to the hospital. He ended up with a nasty cut on his eyelid, and the doctor said it could have been way worse. If the knife had been just a bit lower, he might have lost his eye.
Whitford didn’t just stop there. Later that day, he was at another pub and punched a glass door. Not the best way to handle things, right? The police caught up with him, found the knife, and even some drugs at his place.
In court, Whitford’s lawyer tried to explain his actions, saying he was dealing with a lot of personal issues, including losing custody of his child. But the judge wasn’t having it. He called the attack a “motiveless drug-fuelled attack” and made it clear that drugs were behind all this chaos.
In the end, Whitford got a 40-month sentence for wounding with intent, plus some extra time for other charges. It’s a tough lesson learned, but hopefully, he can turn things around after serving his time.
