Halifax: A guy named Sunny Kanda just got two years in jail for selling illegal TV Firesticks. These devices let people watch stuff they normally have to pay for, like Sky and Netflix, without paying a dime.

Over 18 months, he racked up more than £108,000 by selling these dodgy sticks in a Facebook group with over 3,900 members. It’s wild how many people were in on it!

He got caught when an undercover investigator joined the group and bought one of the Firesticks. Turns out, it was modified to give access to all sorts of premium content. Not cool, right?

In court, Kanda pleaded guilty to several charges, including fraud and copyright violations. He’ll be back in court in May to see if he’ll face any financial penalties.

A spokesperson from National Trading Standards said this kind of piracy really hurts the entertainment industry. It not only affects the people who work in it but also puts consumers at risk with dodgy software that could mess with their data.

They also reminded everyone that buying or selling these illegal Firesticks is a crime, and it’s best to report any suspicious activity to the Citizens Advice consumer service.
