A man became ill after consuming out-of-date beer bought from B&M on Christmas Day, causing distress for his family during the holiday.
Cardiff: A family had a rough Christmas when out-of-date beer from a B&M store made one of them sick. Jane Proctor bought three Shipyard IPA beers just before the holiday, thinking it would be a nice treat for her partner, Huw John, who has stage four throat cancer.
When Huw opened the beer during their Christmas dinner, it exploded everywhere, covering the turkey. Jane said it had a weird taste and smell, and soon after, Huw started vomiting. It was a real downer for their holiday.
After the incident, Jane went back to the store the next day and was shocked to find more expired beers still on the shelves. She had only popped in for dog food and ended up buying the beers on sale for £5, thinking they were fine.
When Huw opened the beer, it made a mess, and he had to take a quick sip to stop the foam from ruining dinner. Unfortunately, it didn’t go well, and he ended up feeling sick. They later discovered the beers were months past their sell-by date.
Jane pointed out that newly bought alcohol usually has a long shelf life, so they didn’t think twice about it. She was furious that their Christmas dinner was ruined and that Huw felt unwell afterward.
When they returned to the store on Boxing Day, they found even more expired beers. Jane was upset that the staff didn’t seem to care and didn’t apologize for the situation. She even reported it to trading standards.
She expressed her frustration, saying it spoiled their Christmas and that Huw had nothing to drink that day. He even had to see a doctor the next day just to be safe.
A B&M spokesperson said they take these reports seriously and have removed the product from the shelves. They apologized for the oversight and assured that it was an isolated incident.
