A man assaulted his former partner, partially blind, using hairspray in a disturbing attack in Manchester
Manchester: A man named Liam Corcoran attacked his ex-partner, who is partially blind, by spraying hairspray in his eye. This shocking incident unfolded after a night out.
Corcoran and his partner had been together for four years, but the relationship was rocky. The victim often felt like he was “walking on eggshells,” unsure of Corcoran’s mood.
Things escalated on September 28 when they were outside a takeaway. Corcoran got angry about the night and hit his partner in the face. The victim reported it to the police.
Then, on October 6, after returning home separately, Corcoran lost his temper again. He pinned his ex to the floor and started punching him. The victim fought back, kicking Corcoran in the face.
But Corcoran didn’t stop there. He came back with a can of hairspray, pinned the victim down, and sprayed it directly into his eye. This was a personal attack, targeting his already limited eyesight.
The victim described feeling a switch flip inside him and tried to tackle Corcoran, but he was pushed away and left with serious facial injuries.
The next day, the victim found messages where Corcoran admitted to slashing him with an electric razor during the attack. The police were called, and Corcoran was arrested.
He admitted to the assaults and claimed he was “mentally unstable” at the time. He later pleaded guilty to assault by beating and actual bodily harm.
In a victim statement, the man expressed how afraid he had been and how he felt abused in many ways over the years. He was relieved to be free from Corcoran.
Interestingly, the victim later retracted his statement, worrying about Corcoran’s wellbeing. Corcoran’s lawyer argued there were two sides to the story and that he had moved on with a new partner.
Corcoran, who had no prior convictions, received an 18-month community order. The judge told him he needed to get his life together and warned him about the seriousness of his actions.
He must complete 20 days of rehabilitation and 200 hours of unpaid work, along with paying court costs. This incident isn’t Corcoran’s first brush with trouble; he once made headlines for boarding a flight to Rome without a passport.
