Lanarkshire: A man was arrested after a firearm was found near the M8. The road was closed for seven hours due to the incident.

Emergency services responded to reports of an armed man near Chapelhall. This happened around 8:55 AM on February 3.

The suspect fled on foot before police arrived, leading to a manhunt. Officers later found a firearm in the area and arrested a 35-year-old man.

It’s unclear if the arrest is directly linked to the firearm. Police believe the incident was targeted.

The M8 slip road and part of the A8 were closed for several hours. The roads have since reopened.

Detectives are asking for information about the incident. They want anyone with details to come forward.

Detective Inspector Stephanie Bertram said they are following a positive lead. She urged drivers with dash-cams to check their footage.

Chief Inspector Gail Nicol reassured the community and encouraged anyone with concerns to reach out to the police.
