A man is arrested in Leicestershire following multiple break-ins at charity shops, including Age UK and Oxfam.
The break-ins happened in Syston early this week. Age UK and Oxfam suffered similar damage. Police came to Melton Road around 9:30 PM after people reported breaking glass and someone fleeing.
Police found a man inside another damaged store nearby. Four burglaries occurred on Melton Road, and three attempted burglaries also happened there. Police believe all these crimes are linked.
The Age UK branch on Melton Road was a target. Windows and fixtures got smashed, and items were stolen during the incident. Tony Donovan, who directs the Age UK store, expressed his great dismay.
Bev Powell manages the Oxfam store also on Melton Road. Her store got ransacked, with items scattered around and a computer screen broken, costing Oxfam money. She called it unnecessary violence.
Police arrested a 34-year-old man, suspected of burglary and assaulting an officer. They released him on bail as their work goes on.
