Dublin: A man is facing serious charges after a tragic hit and run that took the lives of a couple. It happened on St Stephen’s Day near Blanchardstown Shopping Centre.

The couple, Anthony and Georgina Hogg Moore, were crossing the road when they were struck. Georgina died at the scene, while Anthony was taken to the hospital but sadly passed away that night.

John Halpin, the accused, is 45 and lives on the same street as the couple. He’s been charged with dangerous driving and hit and run. At his first court appearance, he didn’t apply for bail.

However, during a later hearing, it was revealed that he wanted to apply for bail. The court heard that he had no previous warrants, which played a part in the decision.

His bail was set at €200, with an additional €2000 cash required. He’ll have to check in at the local garda station twice a week and can’t contact any witnesses or the couple’s family.

Judge Mitchell made it clear that he was dealing with serious charges and emphasized the need for strict compliance with the bail conditions. Halpin seemed to understand the gravity of the situation.

He’s due back in court on January 30, and the investigation is still ongoing. A woman who was also arrested in connection with the case has been released without charge.
