Holyhead: It looks like Holyhead Port is finally getting back on track. After all the chaos from Storm Darragh, things are starting to return to normal for both passengers and freight.

All ferry services were put on hold before Christmas due to the storm damaging the port’s infrastructure. This left many people scrambling, especially those trying to get home for the holidays.

Stena Line, which runs the port, announced that they would reopen the Terminal 5 berth on January 16, as long as the weather cooperates. Fingers crossed, right?

Recently, Irish premier Simon Harris had a chat with Welsh First Minister Eluned Morgan. They both seemed pretty pleased to confirm that the port would partially reopen next Thursday, which should help get things back to how they were before the storm hit.

Mr. Harris mentioned how both leaders recognized the hard work that went into making sure people and goods could still move between Ireland and Great Britain despite the storm’s impact.

He also highlighted the need for ongoing collaboration to keep sea connections strong between Wales and Ireland. Plus, the Welsh Government is setting up a taskforce to ensure Holyhead meets future needs, which is a smart move.

Ger Hyland, the President of the Irish Road Haulage Association, welcomed the news but stressed that we need to have backup plans in place. He doesn’t want to see a repeat of the holiday chaos.
