The long-awaited Porth Transport Hub is finally set to open soon, easing travel woes for local residents.
Porth: So, there’s some good news about the Porth Transport Hub. It’s been sitting empty for nearly a year, and folks around here have been pretty frustrated. The construction is done, but it just hasn’t opened yet. It’s been a hassle for people trying to get around, especially with all the rail upgrades happening on the Treherbert Line.
But guess what? First Minister Eluned Morgan just announced that the hub will open in the next few weeks! This came after Rhondda MS Buffy Williams brought it up again in the Senedd. Plus, when it opens, residents will get better bus-rail ticketing thanks to an agreement with Stagecoach buses.
This whole project cost £6.6 million, funded by the Welsh Government and the Cardiff City Region City Deal, along with some cash from the Levelling Up Fund. The idea was to make transport easier across the Rhondda Valley by connecting bus and rail services. It was supposed to be done by spring 2023, but there were a lot of delays.
Back in July, a spokesperson from Transport for Wales said they were aiming to open it by August. Then in October, local councillor Ros Davis mentioned that while the building was finished, they had to deal with some legal stuff before it could officially change hands to Transport for Wales.
She expressed gratitude for the investment in Porth, saying it would really help improve travel in the area and give a boost to the town center. Everyone’s eager for it to open soon!
In response to Buffy Williams’ concerns about the hub being idle, the First Minister reassured everyone that they won’t have to wait much longer. Transport for Wales is working closely with Rhondda Cynon Taf to get the Porth interchange up and running.
They’re also set to roll out that improved bus-rail ticketing when the new bus station opens. More details about the official opening date should be coming from Transport for Wales soon. Stay tuned!
