Derby Road will be closed for resurfacing, affecting access to Asda and causing diversions for three weeks starting January 12
Derby: Starting Sunday, January 12, a major road in Spondon is going to be closed for three weeks. This affects Derby Road between the Spondon roundabout and the junction with Raynesway and Acorn Way. If you usually head to Asda, expect some changes during the day.
The resurfacing work will happen overnight from 10 PM to 6 AM, Sunday through Friday. Good news is that the road should stay open on Saturday nights when they can manage it. Both roundabouts will still be accessible during this time.
While the road is closed, there will be a signed diversion for traffic. You’ll need to take the A52, going through Pentagon Island and Nottingham Road. Just a heads up, the junctions for Aspen Drive and Asda will also see some changes, with traffic being rerouted via Aspen Drive during the day.
These improvements are part of a bigger plan to make things better for walkers and cyclists. New cycle lanes and better pedestrian crossings are on the way. After they finish with Derby Road, they’ll start resurfacing Nottingham Road.
Councillor Carmel Swan, who’s in charge of climate change and transport, mentioned that this resurfacing is just a small piece of a larger project to improve this important route. She understands it might be a hassle, but they’ve worked hard to keep access open and minimize disruption.
