Plans for 484 new homes in Mansfield’s second development phase aim to enhance local amenities and affordable housing options
Mansfield: Exciting news for the area! Plans are in the works for over 400 new homes as part of a big £250 million development. Bellway Homes Limited has submitted a proposal to the local council for 484 homes off the A617 Adams Way.
This project, known as the Lindhurst Development, has been rolling since 2017. When it’s all done, it’ll feature 1,700 homes, shops, a health center, a new primary school, a nursery, care homes, offices, and even a community park. It’s like a mini-town extension of Berry Hill!
The second phase is all about providing more housing and local services. We’re talking about a small supermarket, a health center, a care home, shops, and a new primary school, plus affordable housing options. This new application covers most of the homes planned for this phase, which is just one part of a six-phase project.
Out of the 484 homes, 170 will be affordable, either for social rent or low-cost ownership. There’s been a bit of back and forth on the numbers, with the original plan being cut down from 500 to 484 to include more affordable options, especially since the first phase didn’t have any.
Nottinghamshire County Council has raised some concerns about parking, saying there might not be enough spaces for all the new homes. One local resident even expressed disbelief at the proposed number of parking spots.
But the council’s reports suggest that while more parking would be ideal, the need for housing is a priority. They believe that the majority of homes will have the required parking spaces, so this issue shouldn’t stop the project from moving forward.
The planning application is set to be discussed at the Mansfield District Council’s Planning Applications Committee on January 13. The pre-meeting report is leaning towards recommending approval, so fingers crossed!
