Bus fares in Coventry are rising by 90p, affecting local commuters and travelers.
Coventry: So, here’s the scoop. Starting today, bus fares in Coventry are going up by 90p. That means adults will now pay £2.90 for a ride instead of £2. Ouch, right?
But hey, at least it’s still cheaper than the new Labour bus fare cap of £3 that kicked in on January 1. Mayor Richard Parker is pushing for bus franchising to help keep fares down, looking at Greater Manchester as a good example.
Antony Goozee from National Express mentioned that buses are super popular in the West Midlands. He’s proud that their single fares are still below the cap, and they’re keeping other fares the same. So, there are still some good deals out there.
Mayor Parker pointed out that many folks depend on buses for work, school, and errands. Even with £50 million a year in public funding, he says they don’t have direct control over the services, which can be unreliable.
He’s got plans to consult the public about bringing buses under more local control. It’s a big step, and he’s determined to make the bus system work better for everyone in the West Midlands.
