Exeter: Ofsted inspectors have noted improvements at Southbrook School. The school earned ‘Good’ ratings for behavior, personal development, and leadership. However, the quality of education still needs work.

The inspection took place on November 26 and 27, 2024. The report praised the positive school environment. Pupils enjoy school and feel safe. They appreciate the support from staff and learn to make good choices.

All students at Southbrook have education, health, and care plans. The curriculum is tailored to their needs. However, the report pointed out inconsistencies in how the curriculum is delivered. Some students struggle in certain subjects.

Parents and caregivers support the school. Ofsted noted strong relationships among pupils, staff, and families. Many parents feel their children are at the center of the school’s efforts. Pupils enjoy various experiences and opportunities at school.

The leadership team has identified areas for improvement and is making changes. Ofsted mentioned that leaders have outlined important goals since the last inspection. Actions taken have started to raise educational standards, including better attendance monitoring.

Safeguarding measures at Southbrook School are effective, ensuring pupils feel safe and supported.

To improve further, Ofsted recommended that the school help staff understand the revised curriculum and use assessment information to adapt teaching for better pupil achievement.
