A significant Garda operation in Cork during the festive season resulted in multiple arrests and a decrease in crime rates
From November 25 to January 6, they focused on high-visibility policing. This was in response to concerns from local businesses and residents about theft and anti-social behavior.
The results were pretty impressive. They reported 63 theft incidents in the city center, leading to several arrests. Some of these offenders had multiple theft charges against them.
For instance, one guy had seven thefts and was remanded in custody. Another was caught for burglary and theft, while yet another had eight thefts to his name.
Gardaí also conducted searches related to drug offenses, which helped reduce street dealing. They even caught two youths breaking into cars in the Mahon area.
A Garda spokesperson mentioned that this operation was a response to community feedback. Although the operation has wrapped up, they’ll still be around, both visibly and undercover, to keep the community safe.
