Exciting progress on the HS2 project as a key structure nears completion, promising less disruption for drivers in Warwickshire
Warwickshire: Big news for the HS2 project! They’re hitting a major milestone soon. A massive 14,500-tonne box is being built to take the new HS2 line under the A46 Kenilworth Bypass.
They’ve just installed 120 huge beams, which is a big step forward. Instead of building it right under the road, they’re doing it next to the A46. This means less hassle for drivers in the long run.
Originally, this project was set to cost £38 million, but it’s now over budget by about £4.7 million. And it looks like costs might keep climbing. The box is expected to be finished later this year.
In spring, they’ll move this giant structure into place under the road using a cool technique. But first, they need to close part of the A46 for two weekends next month to get ready.
From February 7 to 10 and again from February 14 to 17, the road will be closed at night for safety upgrades and drainage work. Vicki Lee, the Senior Project Manager, praised the team for their hard work and thanked drivers for their patience.
She mentioned that this prep work is crucial for safety, as it wouldn’t be safe to do it with traffic around. So, if you’re driving in the area, keep an eye out for those closures!
