Paul Moriarty, an actor, passed away at 86. His family confirmed this sad news. He died last Sunday morning with his wife present. Orchid Cancer shared a statement about his death. They said he acted in Lock, Stock, and The Long Good Friday.

He was a skilled voice actor and strongly supported Orchid, they added.

Paul was famous for playing Razors in The Long Good Friday, a gangster film from the 1980s. He worked with Helen Mirren and Bob Hoskins. He said that movie “made all the difference.” The movie helped his acting career take off back then.

He also appeared in Jaws 3 and Patriot Games. In 1998, he played Hatchet Harry in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Guy Ritchie directed this award-winning film. At age 14, he met Jimmy Tippett Snr., known as the Guv’nor of Lewisham.

Reports said he “took him under his wing.”

Jimmy Tippett Jr. spoke about Paul after his death. He told The Sun about their friendship. Paul knew Jimmy’s dad since childhood. They stayed friends for life, he said. Paul often visited his dad in care as his dad had dementia. Paul died quietly, holding his wife’s hand.

Before acting, Paul boxed and worked as a London docker. He started acting in his 50s when a film crew found him at his workplace, the Surrey Commercial Docks.

He chose the stage name P. H. Moriarty to set himself apart from another actor named Paul Moriarty. His last film role was in 2021. He played Ian Jarvis in Rise of the Footsoldier: Origins, another gangster film.

During his long career, Paul acted in many films. These included Quadrophenia, Scum, and A Sense of Freedom. Plus, he acted in The Riddle and Evil Never Dies.

Paul also had many TV roles back then. His first was in Law & Order in 1978. He acted in The Chinese Detective and Bird of Prey.

He also featured in The Professionals and The Bill. He starred on The Paradise Club and Doctors too. His last TV show was GB3-Being Young in 2005. It was a TV film that year.
