London: A tenant in Westminster had quite the ordeal with his council. He was living with exposed electrical wires in his bathroom for almost a year. Can you believe that? After a long wait, the council finally agreed to pay him back nearly £4,800.

This guy had been living alone and dealing with some serious health issues like asthma and arthritis. He first complained about the wires back in December 2023, but nothing happened for ages. He even asked for some bathroom upgrades, but they told him to look for a new place instead.

The council didn’t even know about a leaking shower until January 2024. When they finally sent someone to check it out, they couldn’t even get to the shower because there was no power. Fast forward to September 2024, and he was still waiting for fixes. Frustrating, right?

They sent a surveyor again in October, and after some work, they found that the electrics were still tripping. It was a mess! The tenant also had issues with his kitchen, which they said was linked to the electrical problems. In November, the council’s team visited him and apologized for the delays.

They admitted they dropped the ball on his complaint and should have handled things better. Even though the tenant wasn’t looking for compensation, they offered him a refund of half his rent since December 2023. It’s about time, right?

Now, they’re also looking into other issues in his home, like ventilation and smoke alarms. The council promised to improve how they handle complaints, especially for vulnerable residents. Let’s hope they stick to their word!
