Residents are urging for stricter regulations on fireworks following recent concerns
Newport: Residents in Newport are really pushing for better rules around fireworks. They want stricter licensing and regulations on how and when they can be used.
This all started after Bonfire Night last month. Folks were worried that some people were taking the celebrations too far, setting off fireworks outside the usual time frame.
In Maindee, the chatter has been similar, especially with fireworks being used to ring in the New Year. It’s been a hot topic lately.
Local MP Jessica Morden has been asking for feedback from her constituents. She’s been gathering opinions as part of a Private Members’ Bill she’s sponsoring.
On Facebook, she reached out in early December, saying she’d be sharing their views in Parliament soon. She wanted to know if people thought fireworks were good, bad, or just okay.
Many residents chimed in, and the main worries were about noise, health, and safety. A lot of people are calling for only professional displays to be allowed.
One comment really summed it up: “Fireworks should be licensed for organized displays only and not sold to the public.”
People are tired of random fireworks going off for weeks. They want set times and proper safety measures in place.
Some folks don’t mind fireworks but think all the noisy ones should be banned. They argue there’s no need for those loud bangs.
There’s been a lot of talk in community groups about fireworks being used outside the official dates, like Bonfire Night. One person even said, “It’s Bonfire Night, not Bonfire month!”
Since gathering opinions, Jessica Morden has taken the issue to Parliament, emphasizing that many believe “something has to change” regarding fireworks.
