Aberdeen: Lloyds Banking Group is closing 136 branches. This includes 14 Bank of Scotland locations. The closures will happen between May 2023 and March 2026.

They plan to shut 61 Lloyds, 61 Halifax, and 14 Bank of Scotland branches. The Banff branch will close in May 2025.

These changes come after Lloyds allowed customers to use any branch for banking. This means customers can visit Lloyds, Halifax, or Bank of Scotland branches.

Lloyds says fewer people are banking in person. More customers prefer mobile banking services. They also mentioned that affected workers will be offered jobs elsewhere in the company.

A spokesperson noted that over 20 million customers use their apps for banking. Customers now have more options for their everyday banking needs.

Besides apps, customers can use telephone banking or visit a community banker. They can also access over 11,000 Post Office branches for banking services.

The north-east has seen many bank closures recently. Royal Bank of Scotland closed branches on Union Street and in New Deer last year.

Bank of Scotland confirmed that Banff’s branch will close in May. They also plan to shut the Ellon site in September 2024.

TSB has also closed branches in Peterhead and Banff. Banff has been one of the hardest-hit towns in the area.
