Llanelli: Finally, the wait is almost over! The Pentre Awel complex is set to open this spring, and it’s been a long time coming. This project, led by Carmarthenshire Council, is going to be a game-changer for the area.

The first zone, called Canolfan, will have a leisure centre, a sports hall, and a couple of pools, including a 25m swimming pool and a learner pool. Plus, there’s a hydrotherapy pool! They’re also adding a café and a health academy with clinical rooms run by Swansea University.

Later this year, a clinical delivery centre will open, offering therapies like speech and language services. There’s even going to be space for private and public organizations to rent. It’s all about making health services more accessible.

This whole project comes with a hefty £96 million price tag, funded by the city deal for the Swansea Bay City Region. Construction has faced some delays due to bad weather, but they’re pushing through.

Cllr Hazel Evans is super excited about the opening. She mentioned that this project has been in the works for years, and they can’t wait to welcome everyone to enjoy what Canolfan has to offer. It’s just the beginning, and they’re looking to keep improving the area.

As for the other zones, they’ll include a care home and some assisted living units. There’s even a path around the lake for a nice stroll. And across the road, they’re planning a hotel, possibly a four-star one!

Local councillors are thrilled about the new bus service that will make it easier for everyone to access Canolfan. They’re also ensuring that costs remain reasonable for the community. Spring can’t come soon enough!
