Llandudno: The Grand Hotel has been a bit of a hot mess for years. It’s been the talk of the town, but not in a good way. People have been slamming it on review sites like Tripadvisor, and it’s been stuck at the bottom of the rankings.

Britannia, the hotel’s owner, has been labeled the worst hotel chain by Which? for ages. This bad rep has raised eyebrows in the community, and some folks even suggested buying the place to fix it up.

But guess what? Things are starting to look up! The hotel, which looms over Llandudno Pier, is getting some much-needed TLC. They’ve poured millions into sprucing up the bedrooms and the ballroom.

There’s even a plan for a £3 million facelift on the outside, and you can already see some work happening on the balconies. It’s still a work in progress, though, as it’s currently sitting at 49th out of 50 hotels in Llandudno. Reviews are still a mixed bag.

One guest said they’d “definitely recommend this lovely old hotel” and gave it four stars, praising its character. Another couple had a “wonderful stay over Christmas” and were really happy with their experience.

On the flip side, some visitors weren’t so kind. One called it “Awful. Just awful” and left a scathing one-star review. Another said it felt like a “time capsule stuck in the 50s.” They were there to help with storm damage and didn’t have the best luck with their stay.

However, there’s a silver lining! MS Janet Finch-Saunders recently dined there and had great things to say. She praised the head chef and the team for the fantastic food and service during a dinner she hosted.

She believes the hotel is “turning a corner” and is excited about the £5 million investment in improvements. The food is delicious, and the views from the dining room are stunning! She’s looking forward to seeing how The Grand evolves in the future.

North Wales Live even tried their “tinsel and turkey” offer before Christmas, so you might want to check that out too!
