Severe icy conditions lead to school closures across North Staffordshire today
North Staffordshire: A school in the area has decided to close today because of really icy roads. Waterhouses Primary Academy made the call after temperatures dropped overnight.
This week has been a bit of a mess for schools in Stoke-on-Trent, Newcastle, and the Moorlands. Many had to shut down as snow hit the region hard. It all started on Sunday, but then heavy rain seemed to wash it away.
But guess what? More heavy snow fell, and families woke up to a winter wonderland on Monday. They were only expecting light flurries early Tuesday, but it turned out to be much heavier.
With those conditions, several primary and secondary schools had to close their doors. Overnight, temperatures dropped to around -5C in the Moorlands and -3C in the city and Newcastle.
Because of the ongoing wintry weather, Waterhouses Primary Academy confirmed it would remain closed. An alert on the Staffordshire County Council website mentioned that the icy roads made it unsafe for staff and students to travel.
They also said that learning activities would be shared later via Class DoJo. So, everyone is encouraged to stay safe and warm.
