A young girl was appalled to see trash scattered across St Ives beach, prompting her to take action and clean up the mess.
St Ives: A little girl named Evie, just 4 years old, was really upset when she saw her beach covered in trash. She told her mom, “rubbish goes in the bin,” and decided to do something about it.
Her mom, Amy, was shocked too. She described the beach as a “completely horrifying sight” with all sorts of junk scattered around, including a firework and some Christmas cards. It looked like a lot of it was leftover from New Year’s Eve celebrations.
There were even random items like a sock and rubber bands. Amy pointed out how dangerous this litter is for marine life. She couldn’t believe how much plastic and trash had washed up, all from the holiday parties.
As the sun rose, what should have been a beautiful view was ruined by the mess. Evie was really taken aback, exclaiming, “there’s so much rubbish, it’s everywhere! Rubbish goes in the bin!”
Sadly, this became a lesson for Evie and her little brother Lowen, who’s just 2. Amy believes in being active in the community and wants to teach her kids the same values. She was surprised to find there were no litter-picking stations near the beach.
She thought if there had been one, they could have picked up a lot more trash. Amy believes that if the community came together, they could clean up the beach in no time.
She feels it’s important to raise awareness about this issue. Without speaking up, people might not realize the impact of their actions. With a little community spirit, they can keep the beaches clean and protect the planet.
