A Leicester man faces a lifetime ban after fracturing his dog’s skull and neglecting her health
Star, a brown and brindle crossbreed, was in terrible shape when a witness reported West to the police. They had bought her from him and took her to the PDSA Pet Hospital. There, the vets found she was severely underweight, with her ribs and bones showing. Poor thing had swelling on her head and overgrown nails, but she could still move around.
Tests showed Star weighed only 17.9 kg, which is way too light for her size. She was dehydrated and needed fluids and pain relief. Thankfully, after starting a proper feeding plan, she quickly gained weight and started to recover.
The RSPCA took over the investigation, and West was charged with animal cruelty. He pleaded guilty to several charges, including causing blunt force trauma to Star. The judge was not happy with him at all, giving him a 10-month jail sentence and that lifetime animal ban.
After the sentencing, an RSPCA inspector said it’s a privilege to own a pet, and people must take care of them properly. They’ll always investigate reports of animal cruelty and fight for justice for animals like Star.
