A new report highlights Leicester as the top spot for dangerous driving in Leicestershire, with alarming statistics compared to other areas.
Leicester: A recent map has shown that Leicester is the most dangerous place for driving in Leicestershire. It’s got the highest rate of dangerous driving offences in the area.
In the last year, there were 26 dangerous driving crimes for every 100,000 adults in Leicester. That’s way higher than Melton, which had 19. It’s a big difference!
Other parts of Leicestershire, like North West Leicestershire, had only nine offences per 100,000 adults. Harborough was slightly higher at 11. It’s clear Leicester stands out for all the wrong reasons.
Interestingly, Oadby and Charnwood had 13 offences, while Blaby had 14. Hinckley and Bosworth reported 17. But none of these areas come close to Leicester’s numbers.
When you look at the UK as a whole, Bradford takes the crown for the worst driving, with a shocking 248 crimes per 100,000 people. That’s nearly ten times Leicester’s rate!
Many areas in the North West, like Bolton and Manchester, also ranked high for dangerous driving. Leicester, however, was much lower on the list, sitting at 122nd place for England and Wales.
Compared to nearby cities, Leicester did better. Nottingham had 43 reports per 100,000 people, while Derby and Northampton were worse off than Leicester.
According to the Home Office, there were over 5,700 dangerous driving reports across England and Wales last year, including 830 that led to serious injuries or deaths. In Leicestershire, 18 incidents resulted in serious harm.
Dangerous driving is when someone drives in a way that’s way below what’s expected. This can include speeding, aggressive driving, or ignoring traffic signals. The consequences can be serious, from fines to jail time.
