A woman in Leicestershire is worried about sewage flooding her home after experiencing 11 incidents in just one year
Leicestershire: A woman named Julie Howitt is really worried. She’s had 11 sewage floods in just a year! Her garden looks more like a lake after the latest incident.
On January 6, she filmed the mess. The water and sewage levels were super high at her place. Julie thinks the public sewers just can’t handle it anymore.
She’s 58 and says she can tell when it’s about to happen. Her downstairs loo starts gurgling. Thankfully, she doesn’t have sealed drains outside, or it would flood her home.
After the last flood, her patio and lawn were covered in sewage and toilet paper. Severn Trent reached out to her to clean up, but she didn’t want to wait around.
Julie has been fighting with Severn Trent for a year about the old sewage and rainwater pipes. She’s also calling for action on a pumping station that isn’t doing its job.
Since new houses were built nearby, she and her neighbors have been dealing with sewage backflow. An engineer told her the pumping station should have four pumps, but it only has one or two.
She’s frustrated because the current system can’t handle the extra homes. And now, there are plans for even more houses on Cosby Road. She’s worried they’ll all be swimming in sewage soon.
LeicestershireLive asked Severn Trent about the ongoing issues and what they plan to do. They said they’re looking into the hydraulic capacity of the area and will keep affected customers updated.
They also mentioned that the pumping station was recently upgraded to a gravity-fed system. But the local council said they can’t comment on drainage issues since it’s not their responsibility.
Julie just wants a solution so she doesn’t have to deal with this mess anymore.
