The owners of a flooded Leicestershire pub express their heartbreak over the devastating loss of their business and community support.
Leicestershire: The owners of a pub in Great Glen are devastated after floodwaters destroyed their business. Cimi and Yanela Kazazi said they’ve “lost everything” as the water rose to chest height.
They were alerted early on Monday when a neighbor called about the rising water. By the time they got to the pub, it was already over a meter deep. Their beer garden was completely underwater.
With help from locals, they’re now cleaning up the mess. Yanela shared how heartbreaking it is to see their pub in ruins. But she also felt grateful for the community’s support, saying, “The humanity is incredible.”
Today, volunteers are working hard to salvage what they can. Chloe, a bar supervisor, described the scene as “devastation everywhere.” It’s clear that the impact of the flooding has hit the whole village hard.
Laura, who owns a nearby cafe, echoed those feelings. She said everyone is shocked and saddened by the destruction. The community is really feeling the loss.
People from outside the village are also stepping in to help. Kristina came from Leicester after seeing the damage online. She wanted to lend a hand instead of going to work in London.
Paul, a local resident, shared that flooding has been a recurring issue. He mentioned how a neighbor had to replace her car twice in just eight months. It’s a tough situation for many.
This is the third flood the Kazazis have faced at their pub, and it’s the worst one yet. They’re asking for help, but not money. They want people to support the community hall or church instead.
It’s a tough time for everyone, but the spirit of the community shines through as they come together to support one another.
